The project involved the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the foyer of an historic late 1920’s Modernist building completed by the Tasmanian Public Works Dept. The original building is characterised by the monumental, raw and regular off-form concrete structure, balanced by the tactile and luxurious polished granite claddings. The new Access Point respects and works with these existing materials and textures by the insertion of contemporary geometries and finishes to create a series of new spaces which lock into but are still identified separately from the existing fabric.
